Engineering & Delivery

Engineers inside your walls, shipping against your constraints

The distance between a capable model and a working system is your data, your legacy interfaces, your security review and your users. Forward Deployed Engineers close that distance from inside — not from a statement of work.

Some problems cannot be specified in advance. You discover the real requirement in week three, standing next to the person whose job the system is meant to change. That is the class of problem Forward Deployed Engineers exist for.

What a Forward Deployed Engineer is

What a Forward Deployed Engineer is

A senior engineer who works inside your environment, on your problem, alongside your people — with the mandate and the seniority to make design decisions in the room rather than route them through a change request. They write production code, integrate with your systems of record, sit in your stand-ups and are measured on whether the thing works for your users.

It is a deliberately different model from staff augmentation, and from fixed-scope project delivery. Both assume the problem is already understood. FDEs are for when it is not.

What they bring

What they bring

Full-stack AI capability

Data engineering, model and agent development, evaluation, integration, and the front end users actually touch. One person carries a use case across the boundaries where handoffs normally kill it.

Enterprise integration instinct

Two decades of working inside ERP, EHR, claims, core banking and ticketing estates. They know which integration paths are real and which are documented but broken.

Adroitent's platform bench

An FDE arrives with DROIT Labs agent patterns, AATMa and AARAM tooling, and the Databricks and AI Engineering practices behind them. When a problem needs six specialists for two days, they are a call away.

Governance literacy

They build audit trails, evaluation suites and access controls as they go, because they have shipped in regulated environments where doing otherwise means a failed review.

How engagements are structured

How engagements are structured

ModelShapeBest for
Single FDEOne senior engineer embedded, typically 12+ weeksA high-value use case with an internal team that needs a spearhead
FDE pod2–5 engineers, one technical lead, dedicated to an outcomeA portfolio of related use cases, or a platform plus its first applications
FDE + offshore leverageEmbedded seniors with an AgileSourcing pod in Hyderabad or PuneCost-efficient scale once the pattern is proven onshore
Capability transferFDEs build alongside your engineers with explicit handover milestonesOrganisations building an internal AI capability rather than buying an outcome

Engagements run on time and materials or outcome-linked commercial models. Where a client wants the capability permanently in-house, FDE pods can transition into a dedicated GCC under a Build-Operate-Transfer arrangement.

Where FDEs change the outcome

Where FDEs change the outcome

Stuck in pilotA prioritised use case has been stuck in pilot for two quarters and nobody can name the blocker.

Contested integration surfaceThe integration surface is legacy, undocumented and owned by three teams who disagree.

Requirement not yet knowableThe requirement will only become clear by putting something in front of users and watching what breaks.

Domain without depthYour internal team has the domain knowledge and the mandate but not the AI engineering depth — yet.

A closing budget windowYou need a first production AI system in the building before the budget cycle closes.

Frequently asked

Frequently asked

Onsite, remote or hybrid?

All three. 'Forward deployed' means deployed to your problem and your team rhythm. Many engagements run hybrid, with concentrated onsite periods at discovery and go-live and remote delivery in between.

How is this different from hiring contractors?

Seniority, decision rights and the bench behind them. An FDE is empowered to make architecture calls and is backed by Adroitent's platform, governance and delivery practices rather than working alone.

What happens when the engagement ends?

Handover is designed in from the start: documented architecture, runbooks, evaluation suites and a named internal owner. Where clients want continuity, FDE pods convert to managed delivery or transfer into a client-owned team.
